Different Types of Label Used in Garments:

There are mainly two types of label-

  1. Main Label
  2. Sub Label

Now, let us discuss them:

  1. Main Label

The main label is the main label. It contains the Brand name or Brand logo of the buyer such as Carhartt, Red Kap, dickies, etc. As mentioned before, the brand label is an essential factor as it is the visual aspect of the brand. and it brings mental satisfaction to the customer. This creative label helps them remember you for a long time. Apart from your cloth quality, your label provides important information about your brand such as your intention about the brand.

2. Sub Label:

As the name suggests they are sub-labels, they contain information other than the brand name. But there are further categories to sub-labels. Let us start explaining the theme one by one.

  1. Care Label: It informs the customers to know how the product should be taken care of. The label contains information like- type of cloth, how to wash it like light-handed or machine, to use warm water or cold, even details like Ironing etc. This information mentioned in the label will increase the durability of the garments and protect their color.
  2. Size Label: The size label indicates the size of the garments. Size labels are shown as S, M, L, XL, where S for small, M for medium, L for large, and XL for extra large. But, as you must have seen, the size varies from brand to brand. Mostly, sizes for big brands like Versace or Gucci are a bit different from brands that are more generally bought.
  3. Price Label: The price label indicated the price of the garment. Which makes your shopping much easier. It’s much easier when you are shopping from the discount section, the price written on the label makes it easier for you to take out if it’s something you want or not. The relatable situation right??
  4. Composition Label: The composition label states type of fabric (Cotton Sub denim, Cotton Regular denim, etc) or if it is a mixed fabric then names of all types of fabric are involved. i.e. 40% Poly and 60% Cotton.
  5. Special Label: Sometimes the buyer is recommended to use the special label in the garments to attract the customers. Special labels are 100% silk, 100% Cotton, and 100% Leather, etc.
  6. Flag Label: The flag label is a very small label that contains Brands name or Brands logo. For example, if it is organic, the company will mention that it is organic fabric.

Different types of fabric are used in labels such as:

  1. Damask: This is the most common type of garment label. Suitable for high end uses, and to suit your elegant look. They require fine text and graphics for better clarity and more detailed work. These labels are woven slower, with finer yarns, and higher weave density, than other labels, thereby giving a uniform weave, with added durability.
  2. Satin: Satin clothing labels are usually less expensive than damask. They have a smooth, shiny, lustrous, soft appearance, and feel. Soft texture, shiny color give the theme a rich look and is often viewed as an expensive garment but yet is not better than damask labels. It can be used on infant garments to strengthen the perception of impressibility. The number of colors in a design may be limited to three.
  3. Taffeta: It is cheaper compared to both damask labels and satin labels but it’s widely used among brands that use woven labels. This is a tight weave structure and produces a very stable, durable label using the design that can be produced by a brocade weave effect.

Taffeta labels are very similar to damask labels but they don’t have the same rich appearance and fine detailing. Neither do they have satin label’s soft, smooth, lustrous appearance of satin labels, but they can carry reasonably detailed designs, and text, and are very functional. These labels are often used for care instruction labels, because of their low cost.

As a business owner, it is often advisable to contact professionals to understand which label would suit your brand requirements. If your labels are not right, no matter how good your clothes are they will still make your brand look unpresentable and make your customers unsatisfied.
